This is a review of the original soundtrack to the Television series Heroes.
I am a huge fan of the show, especially the instrumental stuff from composers Wendy & Lisa. It’s a brand new direction in TV composing and I always enjoy these small segments with the ethnic music moments. Without further ado, here is the track list of Heroes:
- Wendy And Lisa - Heroes Theme
- Wendy And Lisa Feat. Shankar - Fire And Regeneration
- Brighton Port Authority Feat. Iggy Pop - He’s Frank
- The New Pornographers - All For Swinging You Around
- Wilco - Glad It’s Over
- Panic At The Disco - Nine In The Afternoon
- Nada Surf - Weightless
- Wendy And Lisa - Natural Selection
- Sheila Chandra - Abonecrownedrone 3 (Excerpt)
- My Morning Jacket - Chills
- Death Cab For Cutie - Jealousy Rides With Me
- Imogen Heap - Not Now But Soon
- Wendy And Lisa - Homecoming
- The Jesus And Mary Chain - All Things Must Pass
- Bob Dylan - Man In The Long Black Coat
- Cucu Diamantes And Yerba Buena - Maya’s Theme
- The Chemical Brothers Feat. Spank Rock - Keep My Composure
- David Bowie – Heroes
As you can see, quite a variety of musicians, 18 tracks in all for a total play time of 1:01.19. The first disappointment was of course the lack of instrumental songs from Wendy and Lisa. Where is the Sylar cue for example? Heroes is not a show like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Smallville where the songs are very much part of the show, except the score of course. What happened here? Ok, I have a theory:
Movie exec 1: Hey guys, check it out! Heroes is doing great in the ratings, but it still won’t pay for my private jet.
Movie exec 2: How about we slap the Heroes art on a CD cover and sell it to people, hey we’ll even put some songs on there not related to the show at all, because that will make us a lot of money!
Movie execs: Yeah!
That’s the thing with this soundtrack, what the h*** has this album to do with the TV show? I can only see 6 tracks on there that actually was in the show and that’s David Bowie - Heroes and The New Pornographers - All For Swinging You Around plus of course the 4 cues by Wendy and Lisa. The funny thing is that the cues are 0:13, 2:27, 0:24 and 0:32.
Ok, but then you have soundtracks like Spider-Man 3 (songs inspired by) which reflects the mood of the film. Does this soundtrack do that at least? Not at all, Except for maybe Sheila Chandra - Abonecrownedrone 3 and Wendy and Lisa. It is rather an alternative soundtrack which doesn’t reflect the show’s feel at all.
Get this people, this is pure genius. They only sell it as MP3 apparently, which means people pay per track. Now why would anyone buy the album on MP3 when the only relevant song is Wendy and Lisa Feat. Shankar - Fire and Regeneration. Sorry about all the negativity, but this is incredibly disappointing. This is sad. I too am a HUGE fan of the show, and the moody score is a highlight. I never knew there was a soundtrack avaliable, but I guess it doesn’t matter, becuase I won’t be buying it. There are a few songs on there that I have already, like Imogen Heap’s track { she is a goddess }, and Nada Surf. The songs are probably not all bad, but they have nothing to do with Heroes, how weird is that?

Wow, Wendy and Lisa were part of Prince’s Revolution. It is great to know they are still out there creating music especially for a soundtrack.

Nick: The Imogen Heap track and the Nada Surf tracks are very good. As a compilation album (With no particular theme) this isn’t bad, but seeing that this is supposedly the soundtrack of Heroes is an insult. A very strange move from the execs.
Fox: I didn’t know that! That’s awesome! I will see if I can find more of their solo stuff.

Great Soundtrack + lineup of Bands*
I’m wracking my Brain out trying to think of an Older movie i saw maybe late 80’s + it had an amazing soundtrack* It was an off the wall film with some fairly big actors but i could never find the Soundtrack*
The closest i can think of was Trouble in Mind but i think thass wrong + I think it was more of a Musical but I don’t really like Musicals*
