The Woman In Black Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the film score The Woman In Black by Marco Beltrami.
"This score should be able to scare you pretty good even if you don't care for the sound itself"
The horror film The Woman in Black starring Daniel Radcliffe, Janet McTeer and Ciaran Hinds is directed by James Watkins. A young lawyer travels to a remote village where he discovers that the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman is terrorizing the locals. People might focus on Radcliffe and his first big non-Harry Potter role, but I am much more interested in the latest horror score from Marco Beltrami.

A horror score from Marco Beltrami isn't to be taken lightly. He usually does them very well. The Woman In Black is a more moody score than his recent horror score "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark". It is all about subtle orchestration while keeping it scary. A warning for you all, this score can be quite scary but it definitely needs the right place and time to listen to it. I dare you to sit in the dark listening to cues like 'The Door Opens'. It terrified me and I was just walking to work one morning. It was early and the sun had still not come up and I was listening carefully to the score and I had goosebumps and chills throughout that whole cue. Terrifying!
A good scare in a horror score gets me pumped up though. I don't care if it's not the nicest of horror scores or doesn't have a killer theme in this case. It scared me, meaning it gave me real emotions just listening to it and that's a big thing for me. The first time I heard 'Voices In The Mist' I almost got a heart attack at the end. I'm sure someone somewhere will get it while listening to this score. 'Cellar Eye' is an instant goosebump track. Right from the start, in fact I am listening to it now, I have chills from the first few seconds. I want to stop listening to it, but I can't. Hypnotic stuff.
Conclusion
This score should be able to scare you pretty good even if you don't care for the sound itself. I like these kind of scores. I got scared with Insidious and this score, although not as scary as that one, it kept me on my toes the whole time while I was listening to it. Very good effort by Beltrami and I swear he has never been this scary, ever (Ok maybe once or twice).
