The Three Musketeers Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the film score The Three Musketeers by Paul Haslinger.

"I really enjoyed this score, it came as a very positive surprise for me so late this year."

Sigh... How many Musketeer films do we need? Apparently one more! This one is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and stars Logan Lerman as the hot-headed young D'Artagnan who need to save France yet again. The score this time is from Paul Haslinger.

The Three Musketeers films has been scored by so many, but I can't remember such a modernistic aggressive composer such as Paul Haslinger being put to the test. That alone makes me curious. You never know what you get with Paul Haslinger as he goes from the mundane to the brilliant.

What we do get is actually quite surprising to me. A melodical and adventurous score and not some thrash metal affair that I thought it would be.

Yes it's a new and modern take, a more adventurous and action-filled movie than perhaps all other films to date, but the score is addressing proper themes. Ok, fair enough, the themes heard in cues like 'Only Four Men' and 'As Far Away As Possible' sounds very RCP-ish in nature, but oh they do work their magic.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed this score, it came as a very positive surprise for me so late this year. I was expecting a more rock-based score filled with droning action cues, but this score has a fine mix of great themes, adventurous action cues and the occasional ballad.

CUE RATING: 81.8
