Puss In Boots Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the film score Puss In Boots by Henry Jackman.

Let's visit the Shrek universe, the land of make-believe, land of fairytales. However this is not about Shrek at all, but his often used sidekick, the furry Spanish cat known as Puss In Boots. This is a prequel of sorts because it details what happened before Puss met Shrek and his friends. No John Powell or Harry Gregson-Williams this time doing the score. Instead we get Henry Jackman who recently did the animated movie Winnie The Pooh and X-Men: First Class.

I've told this before and I'll say it again. Henry Jackman is one of the better composers to come out of Hans Zimmer's sweatshop Remote Control Productions. He brings such an energy and uniqueness to his scores that is hard to match. With Winnie The Pooh he created a really good score re-visiting the classic Winnie. In Puss In Boots he has partnered up with Rodrigo y Gabriela who you might remember from Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Together they have brought the house down with a dash of Spanish flair.

From the starting cue 'A Bad Kitty' all the way to the end Henry Jackman has mixed Spanish and American scoring and he gets it just right. It's really fun to listen to cues like the fantastic action track 'The Wagon Chase' and then you have really wonderful uplifting tracks like 'Castle In The Clouds'. The Main theme heard in 'A Bad Kitty' and 'The Puss Suite' amongs others has a good traditional Spanish vibe to it.

Rodrigo y Gabriela's two tracks are great additions. Specially the cue 'Diablo Rojo' is devilish-ly good and also 'Hanuman' got my foot stamping the floor in excitement at times.

Conclusion

A superb effort by Henry Jackman and Rodrigo y Gabriela that goes to show that there's a lot to offer in the animated films genre. Puss In Boots is a fun character and the music just fits him perfectly. A top notch effort from start to finish and one to add to your collection.
