Jane Eyre Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the film score Jane Eyre by Dario Marianelli.

"A top score by Marianelli and special high praise for the excellent violin work by Jack Liebeck"

Jane Eyre, a classic story told many times on the big screen, this is the latest adaption. Directed by Cary Fukunaga it tells the story of a romantic drama Jane Eyre escapes from Thornfield House where she works as a governess for a wealthy and cold man. That man carries a terrible secret and Jane Eyre must face the daunting task of coming to terms with a haunting past. A story like this needs a good score to drive it forward. Big names like Bernard Herrmann and John Williams has tackled her in the past and now it is time for Dario Marianelli to show he is able to play with the best.

Dario Marianelli would be my thought if I was thinking of creating a new adaption of Jane Eyre. He has shown with Agora and Pride & Prejudice specially that he excels at this sort of period movie, even though it's fictional.

From the start with 'Wandering Jane' I don't get a feel of where Marianelli wants to take us. The dark and ominous feel of it makes me wonder, but the wonderful violin work makes me a believer.

Themes

It's not until 'The End of Childhood' we hear the proper Jane Eyre theme and it's a work of art. The minimalistic violin played upon a piano segment is perfectly placed in the universe of Jane Eyre. It practically floats and dances in your ear. We hear more of it in 'Do You Never Laugh, Miss Eyre?' and 'Yes!'. I'm in love with that theme.

We also get more extraordinary violin work in the more frantic 'Waiting for Mr. Rochester' that is just an excellent listen. Piano is never far behind, but it is the melody itself that makes it work.

Classical Brit-Award winner Jack Liebeck is the genius behind the solo violin work heard again brilliantly in the cue 'The Call Within' and the final cue 'My Edward and I'.

Conclusion

A top score by Marianelli and special high praise for the excellent violin work by Jack Liebeck. They work wonders together, as Marianelli is piecing together the themes and the score, Liebeck does what he does best, and that is playing his violin until perfection. I really couldn't ask for much more in this new adaption of Jane Eyre who has now perhaps become my favorite as with a score like this takes it to new heights.
