"Right now there are many scores that crave my attention and this one isn't on top of my playlist"

Hoodwinked Too! Is the sequel to the film Hoodwinked in 2005, then scored by John Mark Painter. This time Mike Disa is directing and the gang is back together. Red, Granny, Wolf and Twitchy. They are a real gang of spies as they are in a group called Sister Hoods. This time they have to rescue the famous Hansel and Gretel from the evil witch. The score is composed by Murray Gold.

It's so fun to hear Murray Gold's music outside of a Doctor Who environment. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the varied and fun music of Doctor Who, but to hear him scoring something completely different like an animated movie is just what the doctor ordered.

Secret Agent-y

The Hoods is an agency, run like the CIA, FBI or maybe even Mossad as the trailer seems to mention these agencies. The music feels a little secret agent-y, perhaps to much, in fact waaay to much. You'll know what I mean when you listen to cues like 'A Hasty Exit' that has its fair share of secret agent kind of music. It's like a jazzy James Bond.

It's charming, up to a point. Unfortunately Murray went a little above that point and the whole experience feels a little samey. Still there's some very good material on here like 'Happily Ever Before', 'Red' and 'Legs' that offers something different. I'm sure the whole movie can't be using all the agent music after all.

Conclusion

I like this score and I have no doubt it will grow on me, but the question is if I will give it many more chances. Right now there are many scores that crave my attention and this one isn't on top of my playlist. We'll see as I re-visit it in a few months how it stands, but as it is now, it's good, but only slightly better than above average.
