Drive Angry Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the film score Drive Angry by Michael Wandmacher.
"It is one of the most interesting scores I have heard in a while"
Nicolas Cage plays a vengeful father who escapes from hell and chases after the men who killed his daughter and kidnapped his granddaughter. Horror director Patrick Lussier once again works together with composer Michael Wandmacher to create an effective score for the film.

It is time for Michael Wandmacher to get angry with the score to Drive Angry and right from the first cue 'Full Frontal Shotgun' you can already decide if you hate or love this score because there will be more of the same. The style is so different from most scores. It sounds like an instrumental rock album and you can almost see Dean and Sam Winchester from Supernatural drive by in their car. However, this is not Supernatural, but about a man who is out for revenge and has to have a kick-ass score to do what he must.
Bad-Ass
If I would use one word to describe this score it would be bad-ass. I usually don't like to use the term bad-ass because to me it sounds a bit cheap, but bad-ass can be anything but cheap. This score really has a lot of ups and downs, but the really bad-ass parts in it are simply superb.
After listening to it, I can't imagine another score for this movie. 'Full Frontal Shotgun' and 'Milton' uses a rock guitar with fast paced percussion, almost a rock/blues fusion from hell. If you like this sort of thing, then Drive Angry should be just perfect.
My only caveat is that there are a lot of filler cues in it as well, some are down right nasty to listen to and I don't mean that in a good way. The good parts however, are really good and for me more than makes up for everything bad in this score.
Oh I have to mention the cue 'Mass Vs. Acceleration' which will blow your mind if you are a Inception fan. It sounds almost exactly like the cue 'Mombasa' by Hans Zimmer. I really like this ÒremixÓ however, but wow, the similarities are staggering so prepare to be angry or amazed. I liked this version, but can't really compare to Zimmer's original track.
Conclusion
Overall I would say that Wandmacher has created a bad-ass score to a movie that required just that. It is one of the most interesting scores I have heard in a while, and although it has far too many downs to give it top marks, it contains a lot of good material. Hopefully it will be received well as this is another great effort by Wandmacher that shouldn't go unnoticed.
