Copernicus' Star Soundtrack Review

Copernicus' Star Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the film score Copernicus' Star by Abel Korzeniowski.

"I listened to it a few times and I can assure that it's great enough to be on my favorite scores of all the time list."

Sometimes, you wish a special score to be released. And suddenly, this one gets a release. I was extremely happy when I read that La-La Land Records would release Copernicus' star by Abel Korzeniowski. The first score by the polish composer I've listened to was A Single Man in 2009 (which was nominated for the Golden Globe Award but lost to Michael Giacchino's "Up".). A Single Man was just awesome so I visited his website and listened to the samples (Copernicus' Star for example) which blew me away. There is a lot of great work by him which isn't released so far (Battle for Terra, Tickling Leo, PU-239, An Angel in Cracow and Metropolis). But as far as I know, Abel plans to release his music digitally on iTunes, so I keep my fingers crossed. When the release date was there I ordered Copernicus' Star immediately and got an autographed one, fortunately. If you haven't got this one yet, I would order it now because it is a limited edition of 1000 copies. You won't be disappointed.

If you search for Copernicus' Star on the internet, you realize that the score is more known than the movie. The film is a polish animated feature from 2009. It was directed by Zdzis?aw Kud?a and Andrzej Orzechowski. As you can guess from the title, the movie is about the 16th century astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus who had the theory that the earth isn't the center of the solar system but the third place.

The score Copernicus' Star is awesome. From the beginning to the end you get a whole lot of beautiful orchestral and vocal music. I listened to it a few times and I can assure that it's great enough to be on my favorite scores of all the time list. It has got an awesome beginning with the track Prologue. The triumphant trumpets and the choir make you think: "Wow, that's really great music". It was performed by the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Cappella Corale Varsaviana Choir.

One thing that is outstanding in Copernicus' Star is the orchestration. Korzeniowski has got a very versatile orchestration style. Everyone who has listened to his "Battle For Terra" tracks will recognize the instrumentation of the orchestra.

There are a lot of great themes in this score. I want to mention some versions of the main theme which appears in "Prologue" firstly. In this track the main theme is played by a horn and sung by a choir. It sounds very impressive. The next appearance of the theme is in the track "Prophecy". This version is sung by a few female singers who do a great job. Abel used the tubular bells which make it sound really like a prophecy. Furthermore you have the track Aquarius which is one of the best ones.

There are a few tracks and sequences which are remind me of festive baroque musique. For example there is the second half of Prologue, Faustus and Jubilee. Korzeniowski used special instruments such as a cembalo. At the end of the score there's a great choral song with lyrics. It's called "He Who Stopped the Sun".

Overall, the album is very enjoyable to listen to. Unfortunately, the tracks 13 to 16 are a bit weaker than the rest but they're great however.

Conclusion

Abel Korzeniowki's Copernicus' Star is more than just a great score. I can assure that the 48 minutes will pass fastly. After listening to this one a few times I realized that I have to update my top five scores of 2009. With A Single Man and Copernicus' Star in the list I can say: Abel Korzeniowski is composer of the year 2009 in my opinion. You definitely have to order Copernicus' Star because 1000 copies sell faster than you believe. Since this one is a must have for film score collectors I would suggest to order it now. It's sure that it will be too late in soon time. Twenty dollars are nothing for an awesome score like this one. Because Copernicus' Star is outstanding, I'm very happy to give it the highest Geek Score.

CUE RATING: 92
