Daniel Schweiger over at Film Music Magazine has a new podcast featuring an excellent interview with Hollywood composer legend Harold Faltermeyer. In it he talks about his past, his sound, and that is something everyone should listen to.
What is even greater is the following line I read before I started listening to the interview:
“Credit uber geek director and 80’s film score fan Kevin Smith, who had the cojones to pull Faltermeyer back into the game with a score that sounds like he never left it. At once retro and vibrantly fresh, “Cop Out” has everything that a Faltermeyer fan has been craving, from its immediately catchy theme-bounce to rhythmic comedy and a Latin beat.”
Did that just make you go all Axel F?
Have you been surveyed yet?
Some of you might have noticed a little box from Crowdscience popping up in the lower right corner. Don’t worry, it’s harmless. I am simply trying to find out who you are and why you are here basically. It pops up at random times and it lookes like this:

If you see it, please feel free to complete the survey and give me some personal feedback so I can make the site even better. 6 people have taken it so far and it has proven to be very valuable already but we need more, a lot more to get an insight into who you are and how to make the site better for everyone.
If you haven’t taken the survey yet, please feel free to do so by clicking here (you will be seeing our front page but with the little box popping up in the right hand corner). Take the survey and please add your feedback at the end of it.
Thanks so much for participating!
Soundtrack Review: The Road (2010)
Movie Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the motion picture score The Road by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis.
“It certainly does a number on me emotionally and intellectually”
The world has ended… in America at least, as a man and his son walk the desolated wastelands looking for food and shelter. It’s another post-apocalyptic tale of hardship and the struggle to survive. Directed by John Hillcoat and starring Viggo Mortensen, Robert Duvall and Guy Pearce, it’s an interesting if very dark tale of what could happen. The story is based on the Pulitzer winning book The Road by Cormack McCarthy. It seems to have been well received all round and the music is provided by the critics’ favorites Nick Cave & Warren Ellis.
Original Score Nominees for the 82nd Academy Awards
One surprise at this year’s Oscar nominations for best score: The Hurt Locker by Marco Beltrami & Buck Sanders. The rest were no-brainers, although I wouldn’t mind seeing some more surprises. Here are the nominees in full:
Music (Original Score)
- “Avatar” James Horner
- “Fantastic Mr. Fox” Alexandre Desplat
- “The Hurt Locker” Marco Beltrami and Buck Sanders
- “Sherlock Holmes” Hans Zimmer
- “Up” Michael Giacchino

Soundtrack Review: Armored (2010)
Movie Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the motion picture score Armored by John Murphy.
“I’m on the fence here, but I’ll give Murphy the benefit of the doubt”
Armored is a movie about a group of people who work for an armored truck company. There’s a new guard on the job and he’s got himself tangled in a real mess because a group of people at work want him to join them in stealing a truck containing $42 million. The plans goes bad pretty fast and soon it’s every man for himself. Directed by Nimród Antal and starring Matt Dillon, Jean Reno and Laurence Fishburne, this movie doesn’t look bad at all. There are interesting characters, even though the plot is pretty thin. John Murphy is the man to put it all together musically.
