3 Reasons To Get Excited About Tuesday Next Week

First of all, I have to apologize to everyone who visits this blog because it was down for 45 minutes today with various errors. I panicked and contacted my host who apparently were doing an upgrade on my server to Apache 2. Well that’s great, but next time giving me a heads up would be nice.

Anyway, let’s get on with Big Tuesday shall we? There are 3 big releases coming January 15th that get me all excited!

The Bucket List

by Marc Shaiman

This fun movie directed by Rob Reiner and starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman should have a fun and interesting soundtrack. I’m sure a lot of you have seen this already as it was released on December 16th in USA. Here in the UK it will be released on February 8th. For those of you who don’t know what this movie is about, it is about two terminally ill men who escape from a cancer ward and head off on a road trip with a wish list of to-dos before they die. Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman have a “Grumpy Old Men” style to them now and this movie will suit them I’m sure. Not sure what Rob Reiner comes up with. Of course the last time Rob Reiner and Jack Nicholson got together it was amazing, YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH! There, I just had to write it and shout it at the same time.

Interestingly, the composer Marc Shaiman was also the composer to A Few Good Men. So here we have the trio of Rob Reiner, Jack Nicholson and Marc Shaiman back together again. I have to say that the soundtrack to A Few Good Men was pretty good, and had a couple of great songs like “Facts & Figures“, a great track. Other than that Marc Shaiman has composed to movies like Hairspray, Down With Love, One Night at McCool’s, South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut, Patch Adams, Sleepless In Seattle, Sister Act, The Addams Family, City Slickers and Misery. He’s no stranger to comedy, and I just want to know what he can come up with this time.

The Mist

by Mark Isham

011008-2303-3reasonstog3 3 Reasons To Get Excited About Tuesday Next Week

This movie made after a novel by Stephen King is directed by Frank Darabont and has a few B-stars in it like Thomas Jane and William Sadler. It’s about a freak storm who unleashes a species of blood-thirsty creatures on a small town, where a small band of citizens hole-up in a supermarket and fight for their lives. It is well received by critiques and moviegoers alike and I still haven’t seen it unfortunately. I really want to, but I have to wait for the DVD to be released. I love Stephen King, he is my favourite author, but that doesn’t mean that I like all his movies, far from it. Still, my heart gets pumping a little extra when his name is plastered over a movie poster. Frank Darabont is no stranger to making adaptions of Stephen King novels. The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile were brilliant movies, and that makes me extra excited. March 25th is the release date and I’ll be first in the queue.

What can get me more excited than Stephen King and Frank Darabont? Mark Isham! I have to do a feature on this guy, because he keeps coming up with great scores. The winner of the prestigious 2007 Composer Of The Year Award by The Hollywood Awards was a very busy man in 2007 and if we forget about Next, he made 3 great scores, Reservation Road, In The Valley of Elah and Lions For Lambs. He also made the soundtrack for Freedom Writers, but I don’t think a score was released, so I have only the 3 tracks on that album to listen to, but they are really good. Yes, Mark Isham may not have much experience in supernatural horror thrillers like this one, but that only get me more excited. He did make a good score for the horror classic The Hitcher in 1986 and I’m sure 20+ years later that he still got what it takes.

I Am Legend

by James Newton Howard

011008-2303-3reasonstog5 3 Reasons To Get Excited About Tuesday Next Week

Yes, it’s finally here! I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time. I rather liked the movie, and I carefully listened to the music and I expect great things. Director Francis Lawrence went from directing music videos to Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears to Constantine in 2005. As Keanu Reeves would say in his heyday: Whoa! What happened there? I feel Constantine was one of the best movies of 2005, but the soundtrack by Brian Tyler disappointed me. Will Smith stars in this movie about a plague that kills most of humanity and Will Smith is there to fight the evil. James Newton Howard was chosen for making the scores. He can do bad scores like Dreamcatcher and amazing scores like Michael Clayton, The Lookout and Batman Begins with Hans Zimmer. I have a feeling this will be a great addition to his movie score composing career which spans over 20 years and over 100 albums.

James Newton Howard is one of the big guns in Hollywood and has been nominated for an Academy Award 6 times. When he composes, you listen and I will always be excited until I’m old and gray. Until then I will be very excited about this release and we’ll see how I feel after listening to it.

I wrote a review on “I am Legend”. I thought it was great. I’m really looking forward to the bucketlist. I’ll pass on “The Mist”. Just the previews alone seem to say “DISAPPOINTMENT” to me.

trench’s last blog post..Social Networking using Entreblog

Hi Trench, thank you for stopping by my blog.

Well, even if the movie bombs, surely Mark Isham can’t disappoint. It’s a win-win situation.

ummm….. I just watched this tonight. It was the usual hollywood special effects blockbuster type of thing that I usually avoid.

have you heard of The Quiet Earth? it’s an old new zealand film where there are only three very different people left alive. a much better film altogether.

sorry but I can’t remember what the soundtrack was like now…

p.s. I see you took my advice and visited tetherdcow.com :-)
nursemyra’s last blog post..quacky corset friday

Haven’t heard of The Quiet Earth, but it sounds too quiet. I want to make The Noisy Earth with 90 minutes of just noise and a picture of earth. It will be arty, I’m sure the critics will love it :D.

Yes I did check out his blog, his art and soon his cd’s. Thanks for telling me about his blog.
