It’s time again for the Video Games Awards, and it’s been a fruitful year for game music wouldn’t you say? I wish there were more releases though. 3 of the 4 nominees for best original score this year has seen their soundtrack released in some form or another. Assassin’s Creed II by Jesper Kyd, Halo 3: ODST by Martin O’Donnell & Michael Salvatori and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves by Greg Edmonson. The only one sill left unreleased is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 credited Hans Zimmer.
I bet you all have your favorites, I know I have mine. I won’t reveal it yet because I plan to review them in full. Until then, listen to the 4 scores and answer my poll below on who you think should win the Video Game Awards 2009 (And feel free to add comments as well in the comments section below). The Video Game Awards 2009 is held at December 12th. There is a link at the bottom where you can go and vote for best original video game score so please vote! Here are the scores:

wasn’t impressed by ODST and as someone who thought the original AC soundtrack was awesome, i found the the AC2 score to be kinda lackluster. haven’t listened to the new CoD yet (hoping for a soundtrack release, actually) — so uncharted 2 it is.
I think Halo has sounded better before. ODST wasn’t the score everyone hoped it would be, but I’ve almost only heard good things about it online. The AC series is always a strong contender. Uncharted 2 was slightly better than the first one. YOu already know my opinion about MW2.
ODST isn’t really all that great from what I’ve heard of it. MW2 sounds decent, as does Uncharted 2, but I can definitely say my pick is on AC2. Kyd did an amazing job on AC2, well deserving the award.
Kyd has improved a lot I think. AC2 sounds a lot better than AC in my opinion. More atmospheric. Wouldn’t surprise me if he won.
oh my god.
first of all,i would like to thank you for making a separate page for game soundtracks.i am an avid gamer and i absolutely love soundtrack music(you have no idea!) and to see them brought together in harmony here is truly a wonderful thing.
now to get back to this post.its a tough choice for me between 3 of the above.no i dont think the Assassins Creed OST is in the same galaxy as the rest of the ones mentioned above.
in order:
1.Modern Warfare2 ;Hans Zimmer’s first foray into videogame score is a brilliant one.listening to the theme drives me crazy about how beautiful yet how powerful it is!
2.Uncharted 2 ;i have not heard anything from Greg Edmunson prior to Uncharted 2,but after listening to the soundtrack, ill have to re-evaluate my priorities!!
3.Halo ODST ;While i enjoyed listening to the soundtrack,Marty doesnt include a theme that stands out and defines ODST.he did it in Halo 3,which in my opinion is one of the best videogame soundtracks ever and there is no reason a man of his stature and finesse could not do it again.
4. AC 2 ;why? aas somebody has already explained, the soundtrack lacks luster and it doesnt quite shine to its maximum potential.an improvment over the first but it simply CANNOT stand toe-to-toe with the giants aforementioned.
thank you for your time
oh and if you are wondering which “theme” i was talking about,it starts at 2:52 all the way to 4:12

simply beautiful
Glad you enjoy the site! I think Assassin’s Creed II is tons better than the first score and can stand on it’s own. It doesn’t reach it’s potential however, but there’s always AC III
