Welcome to a new section of Soundtrackgeek.com! Game Music is something I wanted to include on the main page for a long time, but I haven’t been able to find the perfect solution. I wanted to start a new blog, but I also wanted to integrate it into the Soundtrackgeek.com website. The solution was to add another website inside Soundtrackgeek, thus keeping them on the same domain, but with a different feel and aspect of things.
I’m a big fan of game music (although it hasn’t appeared that way). The game industry is huge, bigger than Hollywood, bigger than film and music and it’s just getting started. Huge advances in technology in the last decade has made it possible to make really realistic games, both in terms of graphics and music. The game composers… actually I should just use composers as they have earned respect and should be up there with the main film composers.
If you are general fan of film music but not been into game music you might not have heard of Chris Tilton, Danny Pelfrey, Timothy Michael Wynn, Paul Ruskay, Chance Thomas, Frank Klepacki, Jeremy Soule, Tom Salta or Winifred Philips. These are just a few of the names you will be familiar with as I am exploring the rich world of game music. You may however have heard of Hans Zimmer, John Debney, Howard Shore, Michael Giacchino, Harry Gregson-Williams and Harold Faltermeyer. They have all made music for games and I will definitely talk about that as well.
My main site will still be Soundtrackgeek.com, but be sure to check out Soundtrackgeek.com/game-music as well for your game music fix.
