Retro Wednesday: Dirty Dancing

there has been many movies like Dirty Dancing, but for me, this is the one I remember the most. Flashdance, Footloose and Fame were good ones, but they lacked the music to back it up. They had hits, but not a stream of hits like Dirty Dancing. Of course it helped to have a lot of classics, and it’s catchy isn’t it? The old 6os style music plus a few great 80s songs made me very happy at least. Dirty Dancing is one of my favorite soundtracks and I found a few videos on Youtube that I’m sure you’ll enjoy from this movie. Enjoy!

The beginning of the movie and a taste of what to come. A great song.

A great 80s style song. Love this one, and a good scene from the movie too.

Mickey & Sylvia - Love is Strange

Sorry for the bad quality, but I couldn’t find a better one. I LOVE this scene though, quite funny!

Patrick Swayze - She’s Like The Wind

Aah Patrick, who knew you could sing? And so well! Great song. Get well soon Patrick.

Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes - (I’ve Had) The Time of my Life

This is of course the big hit from the movie, and included is the full scene from the movie. I get dizzy by looking at Patrick’s feet. How does he do that without stumbling?

Simply magical. The story of the making of this movie is just as inspiring from what I can recall. This added to Jennifer Warnes & Bill Medley’s soundtrack resurgence with “You’ve lost that loving feeling” from Top Gun and Jennifer Warnes “Love lift us up where we belong” from An Officer and a Gentleman.

To have this song be a duet that mirrors the characters was brilliant move and to have Partick sing a song as well on the soundtrack as dance and act in the movie further cemented his character and the film in our collective consciousness. I can’t imagine what it must have been like for him to express the so many of your natural talents and have the film be a huge success as well. Even more amazing is to also have your wife have a part in the movie as well.

The stars were aligned for Patrick and someone with as much integrity as he is known to have should be able to whether this storm with all the love & support of his fans who has given so much too.

Great comment!

It all came together so greatly. What could have been a standard dance movie turned out to be this iconic hit and I can just imagine what the sales numbers for the soundtrack and DVDs must be.

I was just thinking the same thing. The amazing dancing and singing done by Patrick Swayze must have been quite a task.

Hollywood need a good ending right now with so many stars falling away like Heath Ledger and recently Charlton Heston. Nothing would be better than a miraculous turnaround and comeback for Patrick. I wish him all the best for the future.
