This is a review of the motion picture score for 27 Dresses by Randy Edelman. Release date: January 29th 2008.

Romantic comedies are hot at the moment, and 27 Dresses was better than most. Katherine Heigl is a star and so is Randy Edelman. He has been composing since 1973 and have 86 movies under his belt. His score to the movie Dragonheart and The Last of the Mohicans (co-composed with Trevor Jones) are always in or around the top scores of all time lists. Recently he has been doing a lot of comedy, “Balls of Fury”, “Underdog” and “The Last Time”. He continues with 27 Dresses, but is this score one we will remember or will it just be a mere spot on the big map, especially since he is scoring for the new Mummy movie this summer? The track list of 27 Dresses:

  1. A Perfect Wedding Day
  2. Keepsake
  3. Dreams Come True
  4. Plans Have Changed
  5. Streetwalkin
  6. Turncoat
  7. Girltalkin
  8. George In A Good Light
  9. Exposed Heart
  10. In Central Park
  11. Phone Intrigue
  12. Sisters
  13. A Mad Dash For Kevin
  14. Old Black And White
  15. Jumping Ship
  16. Theme From 27 Dresses
  17. Chasing Jane
  18. La Vie En Ring
  19. Headlines
  20. A Kiss Is Not A Kiss
  21. Interlude
  22. Irresistible
  23. Discovering The Diary
  24. Intimate Evening
  25. Anotha Cuppa Tea

25 tracks are awesome, even though most songs are fairly short. Total play time is 40:23. This is a movie about weddings and romance. Katherine Heigl has been bridesmaid 27 times apparently and secretly in love with her sister’s husband to be. Right from the start, Randy sets the tone with one of the most weddingly songs I have ever hears (Apart from THE wedding song of course). He keeps it very light throughout using a lot of piano and very little bass. The theme is used nicely in many cues on the score, then there are a couple of cues that’s very 70’s disco style, but that’s not the norm here.

Randy Edelman is a very good composer, and has shown he can almost do it all and every song here is nicely put together and I imagine it would be a perfect album to put on in anticipation for a wedding. This isn’t a score you would listen to otherwise I think, but it’s certainly not Randy’s fault, he did his job perfectly. Just for that 27 Dresses get an extra 0.5 points. My girlfriend is super eager to see this movie. I think next week she finally will. Randy Edelman is the guy that did the MacGyver theme too, right? Must be good.. :D

Very cool site by the way. I’m really into ost’s, but I never know which to pick (unless I just saw the movie). One of these days I have to skim trough your whole site to find some new ones to pick up.

Hehe that’s right. It’s the MacGyver guy. I think he did the theme, at least he is credited for a lot of episodes. I am going to make my site a little more userfriendly, hopefully this weekend, so the skimming through part goes much smoothly :) Thanks for dropping by!

As the credits role for 27 Dresses there is a song playing that has the words “Come September.” Do you know the name of this song and where I might find a recording of it? Thank you!
Michael

Well, when I searched in Google, all that came up was Natalie Imbruglia “Come September”. You might want to check that out.

Thanks. I came up with that too. Odd that there is no credit for it, or is there and I just missed it? Thanks! M

There are a lot of songs in that movie apparently. Just checked on imdb http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0988595/soundtrack
No mention of Natalie Imbruglia though.

Thank you X3. Chaka Khan: “Love Has Fallen On Me” is the song from her 1998 album, Chaka!
Cheers,
Michael

Aha! Thanks for that info Michael. Much appreciated :)
