This is a review of the original soundtrack to the motion picture Across The Universe.
This soundtrack has been on nr. 1 on the soundtrack chart for a while, and why is that? Because it’s Beatles of course! Well, it’s not The Beatles exactly, but it’s a soundtrack to the movie Across The Universe featuring songs written by The Beatles performed by artists such as Jim Sturgess, Joe Cocker and Bono. What a brilliant idea I might add, making a movie/musical with songs from The Beatles and it just goes to show that for every situation in life there is a Beatles song for it. Here is the track list for Across The Universe:
- Jim Sturgess - All My Loving
- T.V. Carpio - I Want To Hold Your Hand
- Evan Rachel Wood - It Won’t Be Long
- Jim Sturgess - I’ve Just Seen A Face
- Carol Woods & TimothyMitchum - Let It Be
- Joe Cocker - Come Together
- Bono & Secret Machines - I Am The Walrus
- Jim Sturgess - Something
- Dana Fuchs & Martin Luther McCoy - Oh! Darling
- Jim Sturgess & Joe Anderson - Strawberry Fields Forever
- Jim Sturgess - Across The Universe
- Dana Fuchs - Helter Skelter
- Joe Anderson Salma Hayek - Happiness Is A Warm Gun
- Evan Rachel Wood - Blackbird
- Joe Anderson - Hey Jude
- Bono With Background Vocals BY The Edge - Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
The total play time of this soundtrack is 52:21 and consists of 16 tracks with some of the most memorable tunes of The Beatles including Let It Be, Hey Jude and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. I watched this movie today and it was a nice movie to watch, the songs were great to listen to and very fitting for the scenes. I am not the biggest fan of The Beatles, and in my opinion, the songs have never sounded better than this. I actually like every one of these songs, and I’ll happily listen to them again and again.
There’s just one thing, albeit a major thing, about this soundtrack which annoys the h*** out of me. As I watched the movie and couldn’t wait to listen to the soundtrack, there was one song that especially got my attention in the movie. One song, I couldn’t wait to hear, but it isn’t here!! The song I am talking about is “All You Need Is Love”. Then I realize it is, but on the Deluxe 2CD Edition, which I should have reviewed instead. I will definitely need to get that, because it contains 29 tracks, but I have to admit that although I didn’t count, were there really 29 songs in the movie? It’s still a strange choice by Interscope to release the 1CD version of this with possibly the most important song of the movie. I’ve got nothing more to add, you need to get this if you love The Beatles or not. Listen to Across The Universe below:

Hmm, it definitely is one of the best, if not the best pop soundtracks I have heard. Hard to say if it is nr.1, because they all have something that’s better than the rest.
Amazing soundtrack, I still listen to it daily. A great film too!

Its strange, I sing those songs in my head, I’ve had it all week! ITs a very very good soundtrack though so I dont mind.
I’m one of the biggest Beatles fans in the world but I think I could do without ever hearing another Beatles cover and I havent watched this movie. It just sounds awfully cheesy.

I know where you are coming from Jonny. I’ve heard other Beatles fans tell me the same. I like the Beatles, but wouldn’t call myself a fan. Maybe this soundtrack is for people who likes The Beatles, but not enough to call themselves a fan? Just speculation on my part obviously ![]()
I am a HUGE Beatles fan.. and I absolutely loved this movie and made the same mistake about buying the wrong soundtrack.
Point being: Even as a Beatles fan - go watch this, but dont expect more Beatles - they split up a million years ago, expect a great tribute to the Beatles.

Another gem from 2007. With Once, this, I’m Not There, and others…was this one of the best pop soundtrack years in a long time?
