John Debney

Remember Cutthroat Island? Dragonfly? Dreamer? End Of Days? Passion of The Christ? The Scorpion King? Zathura? Ok, forget Zathura. How come he’s going all comical these days? I checked his upcoming scores and they are Starship Dave starring Eddie Murphy and Gabrielle Union. Does anyone else hate Gabrielle Union? I don’t know why, but I avoid all movies with her in it. Anyway, the story goes like this: A crew of miniature aliens operate a spaceship that has a human form. While trying to save their planet, the aliens encounter a new problem, as their ship becomes smitten with an Earth woman. Sounds interesting? No? Ok, how about Swing Vote starring Kevin Costner, Dennis Hopper, Kelsey Grammer and George Lopez. Pretty good names, and the story synopsis is: In a remarkable turn-of-events, the result of the presidential election comes down to one man’s vote. Might see this, but I won’t hold my breath for the soundtrack.

Bedtime Stories starring Adam Sandler and Keri Russell is about the life of a busy architect takes a crazy turn when the bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew start to come true. Should be interesting, but again, the score doesn’t seem so appealing. My Best Friend’s Girl starring Kate Hudson, Alec Baldwin and Jason Biggs is about a guy who faces the ultimate test of friendship when his best friend hires him to take his ex-girlfriend out on a lousy date in order to make her realize how great her former boyfriend is. Bleh. Lastly there is Old Dogs starring John Travolta, Robin Williams, Seth Green, Kelly Preston and Matt Dillon. Another big names comedy, but still I am not impressed with John Debney’s choice of scores. What can we expect? I think I will listen to them, but anything over half decent will be a pleasant surprise.

Please Mr. Debney, get over your mid-life crisis and get back to the stuff you know we love!
