About Soundtrack Geek

Me, Jørn Tillnes the Soundtrack Geek!

My name is Jørn Tillnes and I am the owner and creator of this site. I am Norwegian, and yes... I live here too!

The fall of 1992 was when it happened, the summer I became... a soundtrack geek. I was 15 and while my fellow classmates fell in love with their well... fellow classmates, I fell in love with the sound of Vangelis and 1492. 500 years earlier, Columbus discovered America, I discovered the music 500 years later. No doubt if Columbus were alive today, he would stay in his Italian apartment listening to soundtracks all day.

From that year, my life changed. I might not have discovered America, but I discovered something even more beautiful. I discovered Vangelis, John Williams, Basil Poledouris, Mark Isham, Brad Fiedel, Alan Silvestri and many others which filled my afternoons and evenings with audible pleasure. Of course, I listened to a lot of other music too, some of it really bad. I don't want to go into the terrible 1994 dance phase, so don't ask, still trying to suppress it.

There were a few years I didn't listen to many soundtracks and my interest seems to fade, but it came back with a vengeance a few years ago. You see I started writing movie scripts and I have problems concentrating so I needed something to get the momentum going. I thought: "Hey, I am writing movie scripts, I need movie music!". So I went out and bought music that I thought would go great with what I am writing, which was mostly sci-fi. Blade Runner was of course perfect and got my imagination going. I then went on to writing short stories and expanded my soundtrack library further. Then in the fall of 2006, I decided to write a novel, so I needed an aggressive expansion and I fell in love all over again with the beautiful and varied movie scores out there.

It's funny, I can't remember the exact reason why I decided to start this site, but I have two passions: writing and soundtracks, so why not combine them? I also had been challenging myself to write articles and reviews after writing a personal blog and fiction for so long. I also felt that there weren't many of these sites around that talked about movie music. So I made a decision in December last year to start Soundtrackgeek and I am happy to say that I am still having fun discovering new music and re-discovering the classics.

I want peace on earth etc. but I also have a vision for this site. In fact I think of this site of more than just a standard site. I also want to create a community for soundtrack fans to come together and discuss the music, the composers, the business and everything else soundtracks. I hope you all like what I have so far and what will be coming in the near future.
