Journey to the Line is very zen, a little too quiet. I too prefer the Pearl Harbor version. It works great with that and has a certain degree of goosebumpism.
Ouch… harsh on the ever young John Williams. It seems to be two camps on the whole Nicholas Hooper conundrum. I have one foot in both camps as I liked it, but Williams and Doyle did a better job overall in my opinion.
That’s what I was thinking. It’s a different Hans than usual, but it could be the odd track. It has gotten me more curious about it than before, s hopefully it won’t disappoint.
One reason why the scores of T:RotF and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince are different is because of different reviewers. I did the Transformers review, but if I were to review HP and the Half-Blood Prince I would have given it a 7 or 8.
I don’t quite share your sentiments on this score. I feel that this score is the best of what John Williams accomplished for the series. All cues except ‘Moaning Myrtle’ and ‘Polyjuice Potion’ are very very good. I love ‘The Chamber of Secrets’, ‘The Spiders’ and ‘Harry’s Wondrous World’. I would put this score in my top 10 list of Williams scores. What he does so well here is not overcomplicate which he has a tendency to do. The music really shines and come through here.
Another bonus is that all cues are really not that different. I hate when cues like ‘The Knight Bus’ for example in Prisoner of Azkaban comes in and totally ruin my playlist
Interesting that you found my Transfomers review with a search for The Dark Knight though.
Yes, the Scorponok theme was great, but it doesn’t mean it needs to be heard in the new movie. I’ve heard it, I loved it, but luckily I can love other things, such as this score. It’s heavier, darker and definitely more cool than the first score.
It’s just my opinion though and yours is just as good. Thank you so much for sharing it
Not sure, but could it be the Polish name for the game? Not even sure i’ts Polish, but the graphics is not from the OST, but the actual cover case of the game.
Have to find those Outrun remixes. Huge fan of the original.
As you now have seen (and heard) there are lots of material left out of the released score.
I was also disappointed when I heard it at first and was only really pleased when I heard the cues with the Autobot theme. There’s so much good stuff in the score and I have to say that this score will entertain me for years, probably forever.
Apart from the main theme, ‘Money Montage’ and ‘Fifty Seconds / The Money Express’ the original Pelham didn’t have much to offer. Great main theme though, really catchy.
As for HGW and themes, he doesn’t like to do them, but when he does they are usually great.
David Shire did some great stuff for the original Pelham, but lacks in entertainment value (except the cues I mentioned). This one holds a high overall standard of modern thriller/action scoring. In my opinion of course
Yes I think it was the blatant MV similarities that got me on this score. I just love to hear such a score again, a proper “guilty pleasure” like Transformers was for me in 2007.
This could possibly be my guilty pleasure for 2009, although I’ve yet to hear the new Transformer score coming out this summer.
