Movie Soundtrack Preview: Sherlock Holmes by Hans Zimmer

Movie Soundtrack Preview: Sherlock Holmes by Hans ZimmerMovie Soundtrack Previews are always fun, and perhaps particularly this one. Who else was surprised when they heard that Hans Zimmer was composing for Sherlock Holmes?

I was expecting someone else to be honest, but before we shoot him, let hear what Zimmer has come up with.

Hans Zimmer is rarely alone in these Remote Control Productions scores, usually accompanied by Lorne Balfe who wrote most of the cues in Zimmer’s last score Modern Warfare 2.

The preview is of the first cue on the Sherlock Holmes soundtrack and I’m curious to know what you all think. Personally I think he has taken some inspiration from Pirates of the Caribbean, particularly Jack Sparrow and it sounds very interesting.

Well, I’m not quite sure what to think. My first thought was whether Zimmer drew some inspiration from Danny Elfman. I will reserve judgment until hearing more. Did I hear an accordion and even a banjo?

Maybe… maybe Hans is renewing himself!? *gasp… *horror… Hmm Hans and Danny, kind of cool actually.

Yes, you’re right, it’s very Jack Sparrow-ish but nevertheless looks interesting, will find out after the whole album is out :)

Confused,Why so much east european gypsiy music?

It sounds very interesting. I don’t like it as much as other stuff by Hans Zimmer. But one track can’t represent an entire score. I’ll need to hear the whole thing to make a final decision. At least Hans Zimmer is trying something different.

That’s what I was thinking. It’s a different Hans than usual, but it could be the odd track. It has gotten me more curious about it than before, s hopefully it won’t disappoint.

I was going through, seeing all the short cues, thinking “No long tracks on here?” (I love long tracks), and then I see “Physiological Recovery…..6 months” at 18:18 long! Wow!

And listening through the demos, I’m liking what I hear. Some parts are very reminiscent of POTC3′s Jack Sparrow quirkiness.

It’s hard to getting used to. It’s Zimmer, but yet it’s not. I’m looking forward to this. The 18:18 track sounds great. Love long cues.

It reminds me alot of the theme to Twelve Monkeys. Interesting soundtrack.

After listening to the full soundtrack, I can say Hans Zimmer goes absolutely insane on “I never woke up in Handcuffs Before.” It climaxes into quirky insane percussion and string madness, even crazier then the 30 second preview shows.

Hans Zimmer really lets loose on the huge sounding drums in this score. There’s lots of really big drum hits all over the place.

“Physcological Recovery…” is definitely the highlight of the score. It has some really great action music, that in my opinion, is some of his best. It almost gets up to the level of awesomeness in “I Don’t Think Now is the Best Time” from POTC3.

The full score is really a big surprise, and much better than I expected it to be, and the 30 second previews really don’t give it credit for it’s coolness. I’d rate it a full 8.5/10.

interesting interview with Zimmer on http://www.cmusic.tv about the soundtrack.. worth a watch.

Thanks for that! I for one would love to know why he made certain choices with this score.

I went and saw the movie yesterday, and not a word of a lie, i knew it was Hans Zimmer that wrote the music for this movie within the first five minutes. much of the music has a lot of POTC aspects; the bit with the banjo reminded me a lot of Brethren Court and the general epicness in the music is similar to the major action themes from POTC. It’s kinda repetitive to hear these qualities in all of his movies (this isn’t the first time I could pinpoint him as the composer), but it’s still worth buying the soundtrack for. he did a great job with this film!

I’m in love with it. Zimmer nailed the Victorian waterhole sounds and the eccentric disposition of Sherlock Holmes.

I love it, this movie is very good, I saw it 4 times

That score should have beaten Pixar’s Up at Oscars. Holmes was ROBBED!

It certainly was interesting, I’ll give it that.

I’ve seen the movie about four times and I’m still addicted to it.
I wondered what’s the reason and when I listened the soundtrack,I figured it out.

The reason why I’m addicted to movie,is the music.
(Ofc one of the reasons is Robert Downey Jr. but that’s not the point right now)

I think the soundtrack and the movie couldn’t fit more together.

Even “The Rocky Road to Dublin” isn’t Hans Zimmer’s,it’s still great.
