Presenting Modern Warfare 2 by Hans Zimmer
How was the initial feeling when you learned that Hans Zimmer was doing his first video game score and that it would be none other than the massive title Modern Warfare 2? For me it was a jumping up and down happy feeling, sort of how you feel after you won a small amount of money actually.
Well the wit is over, the game has been leaked (shame on you people!). What’s also leaked are about 22 minutes of music from the game composed by Hans Zimmer. Excited yet?
Listen to these 3 clips that were taken from YouTube and tell me what you think in the comment section below.
Personally I was a bit disappointed. It sounds like Harry Gregson-Williams or Barton doing their thing, which is fine, don’t get me wrong. I was however expecting something more than fine, rather spectacular. You can definitely hear the Zimmer style choirs in some cues and it’s pretty cool stuff actually, but not satisfying enough. It’s like going to the best restaurant in the world and getting served a good, but not great steak.
I say meh… what say you!? State your opinion in the comment section below.

I think you’ll like it more when you play through the game. The game’s music reaches its highpoint during the most climatic and intense moments.
I thought it was actually pretty good. A bit like HGW, but not so much that it’s redundant. Can’t wait to hear the full thing.

I certainly hope there will be a proper release for this. I don’t think any of the scores in the game series has been released (except for when you buy the game).
I have to agree with you… it’s *alright*. Nothing really to write home about. Unfortunately, Hans has been heading this way for a while now. More rhythmic loops than soaring themes. It is a bit reminiscent in parts of his score for Black Hawk Down, but none of the cues really jumped out and grabbed me.

I just hope that when we see a release (will we?), that there are some great single cues to write home about.
Jorn,it may not be his best work, but it certinaly is dynamic.
There are two more score montages online,as well as the end credits

Hoping for a full release. There’s also a 7 hour gamerip out (For the XBOX 360 version). That’s a lot of music!
Hans keep going with games soundtrack… The Best.. ever…
Play the game with this music was too much.
I think the dynamic music was excellent developed by him.
Its his first time with game buddies

I think it’s great within the game itself. Hans and Lorne really got it spot on.
I love love love the work he did for MW2 some real climax moments are made so much better with his music, in particular the level involving fighting in washington and taking back the white house. And both the snowmobile chase and zodiac end levels sounded great. This is the first score i’ve ever downloaded.

It seems most people agree with you. Just checked the polls. 62% loved it. I always knew it would be great in the game and hopefully all the hype will warrant an official release.
I think Hans hired some cheap mexican to do it ..

Haha, not quite, but he’s certainly not doing a lot of the composing himself these days.
Great music, it does hit home a lot more in the game though. There’s a lot of tracks especially in the America parts of the game that really move you. If you don’t know what I’m talking about I guess you’ll see when you get there.
It’s not his best work, but still it’s a piece of excellent work though.
The piece alone doesn’t show how good it is just by listening to it, you’ll have to play the game in order to really enjoy it.
Good work Zimmer. Keep it up in the consecutive video games coming up for you.

Yep, if you mix the game with the score, the experience is nothing short of excellent.
It’s very good. Not as memorable as HGW’s soundtrack for the first game, but it goes very well with the levels.
It is very great music, i really enjoy listening to it, playing the game or not.

Yeah I appreciate it too as a standalone product, but something is missing… The themes are great though.

From what I’ve heard, I absolutely love it! I don’t think it’s Hans Zimmer’s best work, but it is great music.

Glad you liked it. I was expecting more, but it’s clearly quality work. Hope for a proper release.
