This music never really feels groundbreaking to me, thus while it's certainly pleasant to listen to there's nothing that really separates it from the countless other nice dramatic scores that it sounds like. It also veers off the map a bit with Against the Gate and Washington Square, which sound like they should've come out of the underscore of a Bruckheimer action flick. Still a good background listen.

i thought that AR was a pretty solid score. but having voiceover tracks to me is just a no-no these days. i don't get why people even do that anymore (ruined the oceans 11 soundtrack for me, f.e.)

apropos of nothing -- you mention kaki king (who did much of the guitarwork in AR -- you usually see her hands in the movie, f.e.) -- her latest album ('dreaming of revenge') is pretty darn stunning and if you like the AR score, you might like her album as well.

August Rush was a very creative project for Mark Mancina and is one of his best achievements. I love Speed, I like Moll Flanders but August Rush allowed the composer to dive so much deeper.

The movie was a interesting one for a family movie night and I would recommend it. Upon those end credits rolling, I had to look up for a soundtrack. The retail release was pretty good because it felt worth it for me. I actually enjoyed some of the vocal tracks (particularly John Legend's "Someday" at the end), which really takes a lot for me. I'm normally one for the score on its own. Heck, even Jonathan Rhys Meyers did good for me.

So, yeah, the main title and August's Rhapsody tracks were excellent but there was a lot more score out there. I was quite surprised there wasn't a score release at first, seeing as this movie was heavy on the music. So, when it finally came around at the beginning of this year - I was quite delighted.

The score is magical and often something that feels happy but not necessarily throughout. Some favourites include August’s Rhapsody In C Major, Arpeggio Theme, Julliard, Pt 2 (was there a 1st part?) and Basketball (I think this is a shortened cue from the Japan retail soundtrack).

Oh, no voiceover on the cues too - this was somewhat of an annoyance on the retail soundtrack. I like my score without voiceover, thank you. :P
