UPDATE! As Robert Saint John mentioned in the comments section, The music featured in the trailer is a cue from the Legend CD of Two Steps From Hell called ‘Freedom Fighters‘. It’s an epic track and the executives at Paramount liked it so much, they wanted exclusive rights to use it. Read the full story here: Nemesis II Blog
UPDATE 2! Someone was so kind as to put the song Freedom Fighters up on YouTube. Listen to the Star Trek Trailer Music quickly before it will be taken down!
Check out the new Star Trek trailer. Can you say EPIC? The music is part Brian Tyler’s ‘War Begins‘ from Children of Dune and part Two Steps From Hell’s ‘Down With The Enterprise‘ plus added The Dark Knight motiv. The result? Monblowingly beautiful audio and visual experience. PS! This has no relation to the actual score which is composed by Michael Giacchino who has said that he will feature the main theme composed by Alexander Courage. Sidenote: The music from Children of Dune was used in the Indiana Jones trailer last year. Enjoy!
Wasn’t that awesome!?

I suspect the music was recorded specifically for the trailer, albeit pulling from various movies. I can clearly hear Hans Zimmer’s two note Batman motif, and in the last half the countermelody from his theme for the Da Vinci Code (Chevaliers De Sangreal) makes an appearance as well. It’s not unheard of for them to hire people to score trailer by grabbing themes and ideas from other movies and to have them rearrange and rewrite the material to fit the visuals.

Yep, the Batman motif is definitely there. It’s interesting if this was the case though. I really want to know the answer. Maybe I’ll have to go to the source…
The music for *this* trailer (#3) is by Two Steps from Hell. This one is a selection called “Freedom Fighters”, from their CD Legend (“Down With The Enterprise” is on that too). Apparently Paramount liked it so much they bought an exclusive license to it for this trailer. It was the *previous* trailer used their track “Down with the Enterprise (choir)”, mixed with the virtually identical “War Begins” by Brian Tyler, from the CoD soundtrack.
Thanks for letting me know about the Freedom Fighters, I must have watched the trailer more than ten time just for the music.
The movie looks like it will be great though.

No problem! Yeah the music is amazing and the movie looks great. Let’s hope it delivers!
I just watched the island (don’t ask why) and it sounds a bit like theme song, between 40 seconds and the 1 minute mark, then it turns into lion king :S
but yeah this song is awesome! makes me want to go train like a motherfucker!

Haha you should check out the score to The Island by Steve Jablonsky if you haven’t already. A great and underrated score in my opinion.
Hello, does anyone know if the song will used in the movie, or is it just for the trailer?

It’s just for the trailer. The score doesn’t sound like this at all, but hopefully you’ll like it

Figures. The greatest music from the film isn’t even in the film. LOL
Great movie though! Saw it yesterday. And that is one kick-a$$ trailer!

Couldn’t agree more! About the movie and trailer that is. The music by Michael Giacchino is really good as well.
Has anybody else noticed that the version played in Trailer 2 is slightly different from the actual “Down with the enterprise”?
wow, thanks for clearing that up. i kept watching the trailer and thinking – damn that is batman music, but kinda different. so i replayed the ‘begins’ and ‘dark knight’s’ soundtracks again, but nada! glad you clarified it. was driving me nuts. btw, agreed on the above – the film’s actual tunes were disappointing after this mix. it screams epic.

You’re welcome! Have a listen to the real score a few times. It mights surprise you. It’s definitely less epic, but I really love it now.
okay, I’m kinda confused about something. The last video, the youtube one, is that really War Begins? It sounds more like Down With The Enterprise

You are right and right… and wrong as well. Confused yet? Apparently they licensed War Begins to use some parts of it in Down With The Enterprise so that’s why they sound quite similar because in effect it’s the same song, but it’s not

Do you know if there’s a way or place to buy the trailer version? I have both War Begins and Down With The Enterprise, but it’d be nice to have the… “mix”.
Love the site btw, BIG OST fan

Not sure. You can always go to http://www.twostepsfromhell.com/ and contact them directly.
I am SO glad I was able to track this down, and eventually download an excellent copy off of Limewire.
WHAT were they thinking NOT using this music? It is what got half of my attention in the first place when I saw the trailer.

i thought the tyler/TSFH combo was from the 2nd trailer, not the 3rd one?

That’s what I heard, but you might be right. It’s definitely not “Down With The Enterprise” as it is, but could be using parts of it. If you find some more information on this, I would love you to share it with us.
