It looks like February and especially March will be a good time to go shopping for some new film scores. Varèse Sarabande just updated their catalogue of upcoming titles and it’s a lot!
There are no less than two titles coming from Brian Tyler. First up is The Lazarus Project
(also known as The Heaven Project) which is a direct to DVD movie released in October last year. I got hold of an early bootleg copy and it’s fairly different from for example Eagle Eye. It’s more minimalistic and it should be a nice treat. Looking forward to get the official release. The release date is a bit sketchy. Varèse Sarabande says it will be released on February 17th while Amazon will have it on March 3rd. Tower Records already have it apparently with a release date set at February 3rd (which Amazon has as a original release date). Either way, it should be exciting. Varèse says: “The score is a strikingly beautiful and hypnotic work by composer Brian Tyler“. Soundtrackcollector has the full track list of 18 cues and total play time of 56 minutes.
The other Brian Tyler release is something far more exciting perhaps for most fans. It’s a little movie called Dragonball: Evolution which is the live action movie adaption of the popular anime series. Brian Tyler said in an interview that it sounds magical and fantastical, like a combo between Transformers and Harry Potter. Interesting choice of words, but he sure knows how to hype it up. I am of course all geared up for this one. Interesting that the soundtrack itself comes out on March 17th and the movie has a premiere 3 weeks later. Varèse describes the film score like this: “The film features an epic fantasy score by composer Brian Tyler“.
Taking Chance is an HBO film that has a premiere on February 21st and the score by Marcelo Zarvos wilbe released on February 17th. Scott Glasgow gets a rare release with a 2007 sci-fi movie called The Gene Generation. The soundtrack will be released on March 17th. Christophe Beck is finally back with a new score from the great drama movie Phoebe in Wonderland. The score will be released on March 17th. March 17th seems to be the big date as Duplicity by James Newton Howard and Knowing by Marco Beltrami.

Loads of scores I want from that list! In order of preference:
Duplicity – he did Michael Clayton for the same director, will it be as good?
The Gene Generation – i’ll take all the sci-fi scores I can get
Phoebe in Wonderland – Anything Beck does, regardless of the film gets my interest, because he’s so hard to pin down as a composer.
