Michael Giacchino will serve as musical director at the 81st Oscars next year. He received an academy award for his score to Ratatouille this year and is currently working on the TV series Lost and Fringe as well as the New Star Trek movie premiering next year.
His previous work includes The Incredibles, Mission: Impossible III and the Call of Duty game series.
Last year, Bill Conti was the musical director, and many famous composers before him so congratulations to Michael Giacchino for the prestigious appointment.

Great news. At least the pompous useless ceremony will sound great. I hope they pay him!!
This uy Giachino is pretty good, and his Speed Racer soundtrack will be hailed as a milestone in film score history since it is so entertaining and whimsical!

Come on, how can it be better than Bill Conti?
Speed Racer certainly won’t be remembered by most, I certainly don’t. Whimsical is right on the money though, I’ll give him that. I’m sure he will do a great job during the Oscars as I don’t expect too much Incredibles/Speed Racer kind of music. Maybe more like MOH? That would make me happy.
