071008-1639-soundtrackr1 Soundtrack Review: Meet Dave (2008)This is a review of the motion picture score for Meet Dave by John Debney.

“The soundtrack has a retro feel to it, like those 90s comedies I used to watch. I never thought much about the scores to those movies though and here I am some 10 plus years later writing soundtrack reviews”

John Debney is here with his first comedy score of the year. Doesn’t Eddie Murphy look creepy on that CD cover by the way? Anyway, it’s actually a spaceship, Eddie Murphy that is. I talked about this movie in my John Debney article earlier, but then the movie was called Starship Dave. So the plot is that a crew of miniature aliens in a spaceship that looks like Eddie Murphy is trying to save their planet, but the ship takes a life of its own and fall in love with an earth woman. Sounds hilarious to me, although it’s been a while since Eddie Murphy did something truly funny. John Debney has done a lot of comedy lately and will continue to do so. Maybe he has found his calling, although I miss the horror Debney or action Debney. I guess I’ll have to settle for comedy Debney. This is the track list for Meet Dave:

Fun Retro Style

Even though it’s 27 tracks on this soundtrack the music only last for about 43 minutes. The soundtrack has a retro feel to it, like those 90s comedies I used to watch. I never thought much about the scores to those movies though and here I am some 10 plus years later writing soundtrack reviews. John Debney makes quality comedy scores though once he get the chance. This has a silly sound to it, almost a little Speed Racer, but not quite. It is one of those scores, where you have to see the move to truly enjoy it. Although I really like John Debney’s effort, he seems to have an uncanny ability to compose the right score for whatever movie he composes for and Meet Dave is no exception. He combines well with the funny and the serious in this soundtrack and it has enough variety to keep you entertained as I’m sure the movie does as well. Disney would do well to hire this man to do some comedy scores for them, as all his scores seems to suit Disney very well. I think this score has something for everyone, it’s not special by any means but it certainly isn’t bad. Listen to Meet Dave by John Debney below:
