This is a review of the motion picture score for Sleepwalking by Christopher Young.
“Perhaps it is not very memorable, but this is a score you frequently take out and listen to because it simply is nice”
Christopher Young is back again, this time with Sleepwalking, a drama movie starring Nick Stahl and Charlize Theron. It’s not gotten as much buzz as his previous release Untraceable or Spider-Man 3 for that matter. This is Christopher Young’s last release of the year, at least of what is announced. Untraceable was a bit of a disappointment, but perhaps this drama movie will do Christopher Young some good. This is the track list of Sleepwalking:
Track List
- Come On, Come Out (by Fine Frenzy)
- Sleepwalking
- Heavens To Be Had
- The Water Waltz
- Twister Hearts, Broken Souls
- Losing To You
- Vanish
- Wishing Well Blues
- How Old Do I
- Three Angels Underground
- Fire Flowers
- Kriskraft
- Ferris Wheel
- Sparkle Road
- She’s A Dead Diamond Dancer
- Mad Bad Dad
- Shine On
Just What Is Needed
There are 17 tracks in all, 16 of them by Christopher Young. It has a total playtime of 52:49. I feel this is exactly what Christopher Young needed. He has done a few superhero movies and some thrillers, but they haven’t exactly set the world alight. He did a drama movie last year called Lucky You which unfortunately didn’t get a release, because it was his best work last year. This year Lakeshore Records decides it is well worth a listen and it is a good choice. Christopher Young should definitely do more dramas as I feel that is his strength.
Melancholy
As you may have gathered by now, I like this score. It’s really nice to listen to, it feels like a nice drama movie. Perhaps it is not very memorable, but this is a score you frequently take out and listen to because it simply is nice. There are no themes, just various cues using a guitar and some ambient elements. If I were to compare, it’s not as good as The Life Before Her Eyes by James Horner, but it is in the same vein. Oh I have to mention that this features a nice piano, but if you hate the melancholy style of piano playing it will be hard to convince you. If you on the other hand like a slow and tender guitar mixed in with some piano and ambient sounds, this will be perfect for you. Listen to Sleepwalking by Christopher Young below:
Negatives:
- No themes
Positives:
- Nice melancholy slumbering music
