The Neverending Story (1982)

Limahl - The Neverending Story

One of the great songs of the 80s. I just love it. I didn’t like anything else Limahl made though, but the music and movie is cool!

Footloose (1984)

Kenny Loggins - Footloose

“Let’s daaaaaaaaaaaaaance!” And why not? Awesome music that even gets me excited about dancing. It’s no easy feat.

Back to the Future (1985)

Huey Lewis & The News - Back In Time

Getting back in time has never been better than this. Huey Lewis has produced a number of hits, and this isn’t their biggest one to be fair, but I love it, both the movie and the music.

Flashdance (1983)

Irene Cara - Flashdance (What a feeling)

Want more dancing? Then look no further. This is the full video. Great song.

Convoy (1978)

C.W. McCall - Convoy

Hehe I couldn’t find a better video than this, but I love this cool song. Miss the movie. I have to watch it again one of these days. I think this one was the nr. 1 on Billboard top 100 for the year charts in 1978. That’s pretty amazing.

Oh my gosh, The Neverending Story is bring back my inner child. I think it’s a perfect song for the movie and stands on its own.

Listen Geek, I love all this retro stuff but give me a break on this Soda pop soundtrack formula hit songs. It is like drinking too much Coca Cola. I get the Neverending Story but if you are throwing out Footloose and What a feeling I am going to have to get a bucket. In that case add “The Heat is On” by Glenn Fry and “Gloria” by Laura Branigan and you’ve got a perfect package of overplayed songs that always amaze me with their popularity. Each of these movies could make their own retro Wednesday.

I say this in fun way but surely you or someone else out there know what I mean. :-) Sometime it is these songs that replace a true soundtrack score and sometimes I perceive as the enemy. I won’t have any regrets if I pass on without hearing “What a feeling, again”

Okay, I had to provide a separate comment for the Track “Back in Time” It too is one of my favorite soundtrack songs ever.

It is more endearing because it was not such a big hit with as heavy rotation as “Power of Love” another song that can make me seasick or should I say hearsick?

Why didn’t this become the lead song. It sums up the movie in song really well. I really love the double meaning in the title. Back in time as in on time and Back in time as in time travel.

How can you not jazz to the Tower of Power who helped on this tune and those groovy guitars. Great song.

Yet another intersection in our musical tastes. Great choice. I have the cassette and also love the classic Alan Silvestri Overture that we all have eternally linked with the Universal Studios promo during coming attractions back in the day. Yet another unreleased full score to a wonderful movie. However the overture did a good job summing up the main themes. Wait a minute it seems that you can get the full score somewhere out there.

Fox, Footloose and What A Feeling are classics, stop complaining ;)

Ooh, “The Heat Is On” is an amazing song. Listening to it right now. Don’t worry, there will be more of these cheesy songs in the upcoming Retro Wednesdays.

I love “The Power of Love” as well. I already have it pegged out for another spectacular Retro Wednesday in the future. “Back in Time” is a good song, but it lacks the power of “Power of Love”, it’s a little too weak to make it on its own. It’s a very good song though, great melody.

I do have the full scores to the Back To The Future trilogy, but apart from Alan Silvestri’s excellent overture, the score itself is not great, but it’s interesting to listen to.

Thanks Geek! I loved this! I’m a huge Huey Lewis fan so including Back in Time was icing on the cake to me. I’ve never seen Convoy but heard the song, a long time ago. Footloose and Flashdance are infectious aren’t they?
