Soundtrack Review: The Tudors by Trevor Morris (2007)

This is a review of the motion picture score for The Tudors by Trevor Morris.
Recently a movie called The Other Boleyn Girl had its premiere, and since the story is about King Henry VIII and the Boleyn sisters, I thought it would be good fun to have a little head to head with the soundtrack to the excellent TV show The Tudors. I will review The Other Boleyn Girl by Paul Cantelon tomorrow. If you don’t know, The Tudors is a hugely popular TV series being aired on Showtime. Season 1 ended last year, and season 2 starts on March 30th. Trevor Morris is a Canadian composer who wrote his first composition at 13. He has composed mostly for TV series, including E-Ring and Justice. Here is the track list for The Tudors:
- The Tudors (Main Title Theme)
- Murder In Urbino
- Pleasured Distractions
- Pathetic Fallacy
- Henry Meets Anne Boleyn
- Cardinal Wolsey’s Secrets
- A Historic Love
- More’s Love Of A King
- Visions Of A Great Ruler
- Fun And Games
- Jousting
- Mixed Messages From Anne
- Whispers & Confessions
- The Passion Of King Henry
- Buckingham Plots For Murder
- The War Room
- A Queen’s Loneliness
- To Love A Country
- The Sweating Sickness Arrives
- Hallucinations
- A Country At Death’s Door
- England Reborn
- Behold The King Of England
- Wolsey Arrested For Treason
- Wolsey Commits Suicide (Finale)
I’m happy with Trevor Morris contribution here, 25 tracks with a total playtime of 46:22. When I watch this TV show I really notice the music and this is one of the few shows that I watch the intro in its entirety. The main theme music for this is so powerful mixed with amazing images, and you immediately fall in love. What Trevor Morris has done here is cleverly combined powerful music that works, but he hasn’t forgotten what the show is about. The music feels right for the show, the time period and the powerful drama behind it all.
Like the show, Trevor Morris has taken a few liberties here and there, but it works great. I’m really happy that they didn’t go for an all classical composer or a media venture all-action guy. They picked Trevor Morris to do the score, and I bet they don’t regret that decision. I feel it is quite amazing, in fact one of the biggest TV snubs of all time when Trevor Morris wasn’t even nominated for this masterpiece in various award shows. As you probably have gathered by now, I love this soundtrack and I can’t wait for the season 2 soundtrack. Make sure you check in tomorrow for The Other Boleyn Girl soundtrack review. What a coincidence! We’re featuring Jonathan Rhys meyers at tMF and you have the soundtrack review! AWESOME!!!
Well you know what they say. Great minds think alike
I would assume that The Tudors would have a good soundtrack, but I am not a fan of the show’s star, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, nor am I interested in the show at all. So I am going to have to take your word for it, on the soundtrack that is.

Nick: Why don’t you like JRM? I think he is a fantastic actor myself, but I didn’t know until I watched the show. After that I started watching all his movies. Well, you don’t have to like the show or JRM to enjoy the soundtrack
James: I would go with Great (capital G). A+. Amazing show with great actors and music.
JRM was great in Match Point. He’s also effective in The Tudors. Tudors is a great show. Give it a try.

Can’t agree more
hi,
i know the tudors second season did not come out yet but the first episode for season two is on showtime on-demand already, a showtime boo-boo i’m sure, and at the end of this episode they show a teaser of what’s coming up on the rest of season two.
there is a song there, the last song played, that i really liked. would anybody happen to know the name of this song? i know the soundtrack for season two has not come out yet but people tend to find these things out before made they are made public anyway so i figured i’d give it a shot. i’m not even sure if it will end up on the soundtrack.
so any help with this would be awesome. thanks!!!!!!!
Wow, it’s “out” already? You got me all excited now. Maybe the teaser is on Youtube? i don’t want to look because of spoilers but everything ends up there eventually.
I’ll keep an eye out for that one. Thanks for stopping by.
I took your advice and what a great great series! The music is just as good. The themes are not overdone and the music creates a wonderful ambiance.
I’ve watched the first two episodes of season two and it seems like lots of good is to come. Can’t wait for the next episodes to air.

Aww.. not fair. I am not able to see season 2 yet. I am so looking forward to it, can’t wait! Glad you enjoy it, I’m bursting for season 2 now, it will be amazing, I just know it.
don’t worry, just 2 more days. LOL. but you’re right, the teaser is on Youtube and it looks like it’s going to be an awesome second season.
the 1st episode is on youtube too, but only for US citizens. I suppose I could use a proxy, but I can wait… I think.
Really, i´m very surprised and cçgratified with the showtime ‘The Tudors’ through in people + arts Channel. And soundtrack, i haven`t words for describe it´s excellent, but it´s not available here, in Bogota Colombia. I expect shall buy it very soon.
Oh I really hope you can, because it’s really a wonderful soundtrack.
So, I really can’t wait for the 3rd season to come out. The second was amazing. I’m in love with a specific song that played when Ann Boleyn was reminiscing about her childhood. I’m anxiously waiting for the second soundtrack to come out just so I can listen to that one song.
You and me both! I agree, that song played when she was remembering her childhood was magic. The second season score should be amazing, even better than the first season. Bring on season 3!
