Soundtrack Review: Meet the Spartans by Christopher Lennertz

Christopher Lennertz is mostly known for his game scores, especially the Medal of Honor series and he was recently nominated for Best Original Score for a game or interactive media at IFCMA for Warhawk. His movies include Dr. Doolittle 3 and Alvin and the Chipmunks. He seems to enjoy making comedy scores as Meet the Spartans is a spoof of the 300 movie. The movie itself looks terrible, how many of these spoof movies do we need? It was fun once, but now it’s just ridiculous. Well even these movies need music and Christopher Lennertz got the job.
The music doesn’t feel comical at all, and I don’t know if that was intended. It seems like Christopher Lennertz has taken inspiration from movies such as Gladiator and 300. I also have a funny feeling about this, it feels like a game score. I don’t think it is because I know him mostly for games, but it’s because the tracks are really short. There are 24 in all on the promo score, the longest track is 2:59 and the whole score has a playtime of 34:24
I don’t think Meet the Spartans will get an official release, if it does, it will be on iTunes. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? It’s actually a bad thing. Despite what you might think of the movie, the score isn’t too bad. It feels light when compared to for example the 300 score, it just doesn’t have the same high quality, but it still hold its own quite well. Christopher Lennertz feels like a light version of Tyler Bates but there’s heaps of potential. His game scores are great and I can see him scoring some great movies in the future. Listen to it below:

Meet The Spartans sucks. But of course you knew that. I think it got a 5% on Rotten Tomatoes.
