012608-1344-moviecompos6 Movie Composers Preview 2008 – Part IIRandy Newman

012608-1344-moviecompos7 Movie Composers Preview 2008 – Part IIRandy Newman, David Newman and Thomas Newman’s more famous cousin with high profile scores like Toy Story and Monsters Inc., his collaboration with Disney is well known. His 2008 movie Leatherheads is no Disney movie however. It’s directed by and starring George Clooney as a 1920’s footballer. It’s also starring Renee Zellweger and John Krasinski. Is it a sports movie or a romantic comedy or both? Randy Newman hasn’t done any sports movies yet so it will be interesting to see what he comes up with. Release date: April 4th 2008.

012608-1344-moviecompos8 Movie Composers Preview 2008 – Part IIBill Conti

012608-1344-moviecompos9 Movie Composers Preview 2008 – Part IIOne of the true Hollywood greats Bill Conti with scores for Rocky, The Right Stuff, Karate Kid, North and South and F/X is back with a movie called Hold-Up. It’s directed by Michael Mandell and starring Tony Devon. It’s an action/crime movie, and there’s not much more details than that, but the question everyone asks is: Is Bill Conti past his best? It’s been a long time since he scored for something decent (except Rocky Balboa of course). He is still a legend to me, and I will await this score with much anticipation. Release date: September 10th, 2008.

012608-1344-moviecompos10 Movie Composers Preview 2008 – Part IIAngelo Badalamenti

012608-1344-moviecompos11 Movie Composers Preview 2008 – Part IIAngelo Badalamenti has a nice movie coming up this year. It’s a romantic drama called The Edge of Love, directed by John Maybury and starring Keira Knightley, Sienna Miller and Cillian Murphy. He has been scoring since 1973 and most notably (for me) is Twin Peaks which I reviewed earlier. He can do most styles and is one of the most versatile composer in Hollywood. Release date: November 6th, 2008.

Hey, you’ve got a nice website going here also! Thanks for checking out mine, I’ll be reading up on yours as well. Mind if I link to you?

Keep up the good work!

Is it just me, or do all Randy Newman songs sound alike?
Love Angelo Badalementi. Still put in the Twin Peaks soundtrack when I need some writing mood music.

First visit here, via Entrecard.
Come check me out at It’s A Blog Eat Blog World

cheers,

The Boom Operator: Thanks! you have a great site. Had you in my RSS feeds, but added you to the blogroll as well. Not a problem with you linking to me :)

Mo: Hehe you may be on to something there, well at least his Disney scores. AAh, Twin Peaks… it’s timeless isn’t it? Checked out your blog and dropped you a card. It’s awesome that someone from Entrecard actually does something else than just drop cards. That’s rare. I salute you and thank you for your visit.

One note about Randy Newman and sports movies: He did do the score to The Natural 1984 so he is not unfamiliar with sports movies or for that matter period piece sports movies since the Natural was set in the 30’s/40’s.

Thanks

Thanks rudes! I must admit I have never heard of that movie or the score. What did you think of it? It’s still 24 years ago, so I would hope he doesn’t repeat himself like he usually does ;)
