Trevor Rabin
Trevor Rabin has one movie lined up for this year so far. It’s the remake of the old TV show Get Smart, directed by Peter Segal, starring Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway and Bill Murray. Trevor Rabin has done a few action comedies in his time, so he is no stranger to the genre. I hope this isn’t the only movie Trevor Rabin is scoring for 2008, as he is one of my favourite composers. Release date: June 20th 2008.
John Williams
Isn’t John Williams great? How brilliant is Star Wars, Superman and Indiana Jones? Hey, speaking of Indiana Jones, did you know there’s a movie coming this year titled Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull directed by Steven Spielberg, starring Harrison Ford and Cate Blanchett? Of course you did and of course John Williams is scoring for it. What can we expect from the legend? I expect a fun score, just like the previous ones in the series and I’m excited to hear the main theme especially. Release date: May 22nd 2008.
Steve Jablonsky
Steve Jablonsky has no movies lines up for 2008 so far, but instead he is scoring for a game called Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath by Electronic Arts. He recently did the score for Transformers the game and of course the movie which was absolutely brilliant, a guilty pleasure. The Command & Conquer series is of course one of the biggest franchises in games industry. Steve Jablonsky also made the score for Tiberium Wars with Trevor Morris. As excited as I am for this, I hope he can sneak in a movie as well. Release date: 2008.
Mark Isham
So what is my composer of the year 2007 doing for 2008? So far not much, as he has only one movie coming up called Pride and Glory directed by Gavin O’Connor starring Colin Farrell, Edward Norton and Jon Voight. Now the question is whether it is a 2008 movie anymore as LA Times reported that it had been decided for a 2009 release date. It’s an exciting project and I think it’s perfect for Mark Isham. Release date: March 14th 2008.
Lisa Gerrard
Most people know Lisa Gerrard for her collaboration with Hans Zimmer on the Gladiator score. I knew her from the band Dead Can Dance, and her voice is simply amazing. I think her best work was with Jeff Rona on A Thousand Roads. In 2008 she is scoring for the documentary Samsara by Ron Fricke. It’s a sequel to the 1992 film Baraka. It’s about existence, humanity’s relationship to the eternal. I think this one will be great, possibly one of the best scores this year. Release date: 2008
