Today is the day many people, including me has waited for since 1988. That’s 20 years of waiting, so this better be good. I am of course talking about Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo or John Rambo as someone like to call it. What is especially exciting for me as a Soundtrack Geek is that a brand new fresh delicious score is being produced by none other than Brian Tyler himself. Saying that, it’s very unfortunate that Jerry Goldsmith had to leave us and his scores for the three previous Rambo movies were very good indeed. We are all excited to see whether Brian Tyler’s Rambo score can live up to the huge expectations. Click here to see the new Rambo trailer with Jerry Goldsmith music.

The soundtrack itself should be out on Tuesday February 5th, but I hope to manage to get it before that. What about the Rambo theme? Will Brian Tyler change it in some way like Christopher Young did for Spider-Man 3, or will he simply remix it like John Ottman did for Superman Returns? On thing they all have in common, there are huge shoes to fill. I personally love the Rambo theme, and I remember playing a game on my Commodore 64 called First Blood: Part II which was of course based on the movie with the same name. The music in that game was fantastic, and the game was ok too. The theme is very memorable, especially in First Blood Part II.

In the First Blood soundtrack we see the main theme being heavily used, but it’s like Jerry Goldsmith is just testing it out, like he doesn’t dare push it that little extra. Rambo is First Blood Part II for me musically. Here the character is shaped, his sound, his music, an absolute classic. Rambo III was sort of a mix between the two, but not quite as pronounced as First Blood Part II. I listened to them all again and decided to give them ratings. I also made a little video with music from all 3 Rambo movies, so enjoy a piece of history and let’s hope Brian Tyler brings us a great piece of history.

UPDATE: Great news! I will be getting the new Rambo score by Brian Tyler later today so I will give you my review of it as soon as I can!
