So they are finally here and I’m really happy with one surprise inclusion for best score. Here are the nominees:

Best Music Original Score

Atonement (Dario Marianelli)

The Kite Runner (Alberto Iglesias)

Michael Clayton (James Newton Howard)

Ratatouille (Michael Giacchino)

3:10 To Yuma (Marco Beltrami)

Best Music Original Song

Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova – Falling Slowly (Once)

Jamia Simone Nash & Impact Repertory Theatre – Raise Up (August Rush)

Amy Adams – Happy Working Song (Enchanted)

Jon McLaughlin – So Close (Enchanted)

Amy Adams – That’s How You Know (Enchanted)

Michael Clayton! Yay! I couldn’t believe it when I saw it. Not in a million years did I think it would be nominated after the Golden Globe and International Film Music Critic Award snub. If you remember, I had Michael Clayton on my top 10 scores of 2007. 1-0 Soundtrack Geek! Other than that, it’s pretty much as expected, but I was a bit surprised that Ratatouille was included here. There will Be Blood wasn’t eligible for a nomination apparently. It was disqualified because it used pre-existing music.

For the Best Music Original Song category, well, I think it’s not right that Enchanted should get 3 award nominations, 2 for Amy Adams when there are other good soundtracks out there who could have gotten a spot instead. No doubt Enchanted deserves a nomination, but 3!? Come on!

I will be having a feature on these categories, with predictions and my favourites as part of the LAMB Oscars Uber-Event thing (Did I get that right Fletch?), but not tonight, tonight we party, or sleep!
