This is it folks, bigger than the academy awards! This is the one that counts, here’s a quick summary:

Atonement, Zodiac and Lust, Caution with 3 nominations each. As for the composers, this seems to be Alexandre Desplat’s year (again) with 7 nominations. Right behind him is Michael Giacchino with 5 nominations and Dario Marianelli with 4 nominations. It’s nice that Jerry Goldsmith is nominated 2 times, you can never nominate him enough for what he has done for film music. I’m also very happy that they nominated the excellent Sunshine by John Murphy. Of course they “forgot” about Trevor Rabin again, and Steve Jablonsky, but it was expected, as Transformers isn’t a hit with the critics and Trevor Rabin never get the recognition he deserves. I’m very happy to see Mark Isham nominated for composer of the year as he is my composer of the year.

It’s a shame they didn’t include Paul Hepker & Mark Kilian’s score for Rendition. Nothing for Brian Tyler, Klaus Badelt, Geoff Zanelli or Craig Armstrong. Frankly I am shocked that Greg Edmondson’s excellent score for Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune didn’t get nominated and even more shockingly, how did they not nominate The Tudors by Trevor Morris in the television category? I will be doing features over the next few weeks on each category and tell you what I think, who my favourite are, who was forgotten, who shouldn’t be there and so on.

The winners will be announced on February 15th 2008. Here are the nominations in full:
