Disclaimer: The only thing I will write about Cloverfield is that it doesn’t have a soundtrack.

Taxi To The Dark Side
Director: Alex Gibney
Cast: N/A
Genre: Documentary
Original Music: Ivor Guest
This seems like an interesting documentary which gives you an in-depth look at the torture practices of the United States in Afghanistan, Iraq and Guantanamo Bay, focusing on an innocent taxi driver in Afghanistan who was tortured and killed in 2002. It’s already won a Gold Hugo and Best Documentary Feature at Ojai Film Festival. Ivor Guest will be doing the score for this one. The only registered scores Ivor Guest has done are The Business, The Football Factory and Goodbye Charlie Bright, none of which I have heard, but I have a feeling this movie will have a good score.
Cassandra’s Dream
Director: Woody Allen
Cast: Ewan McGregor, Colin Farrell
Genre: Crime / Drama / Thriller
Original Music: Philip Glass
Most people have a love/hate relationship with Woody Allen. This movie is about the tale of two brothers with serious financial woes. When a third party proposes they turn to crime, things go bad and the two become enemies. The trailer was interesting, and I wonder what the music will be like. Philip Glass is a well known composer and it will be exciting to hear what he comes up with this time. Best known for his work on The Hours and Notes On A Scandal, Philip Glass still has something to prove. Will this movie be the breakthrough? I don’t think so, but I’ll certainly give it a listen if it’s released.
Teeth
Director: Mitchell Lichenstein
Cast: Jess Weixler, John Hensley
Genre: Comedy / Horror
Original Music: Robert Miller
This movie intrigues me. It won the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Have you watched the trailer yet? Check it at the end of this post. This is about a high school student who discover she has a physical advantage when she becomes the object of male violence. Robert Miller is composing the score for this one. He has been composing since 1992, but only unknown movies as far as I am concerned. I rarely find a horror score that I like, and I don’t think Robert Miller will surprise me.
27 Dresses
Director: Anne Fletcher
Cast: Katherine Heigl, James Marsden
Genre: Comedy / Romance
When I was watching the trailer I had to struggle to not stop it. It felt awful watching it, it really did. I liked Katherine Heigl in Roswell, but this is not good at all. It’s about a young woman who wrestles with the idea of standing by her sister’s side as her sibling marries the man she’s secretly in love with. Who is making the score for this? John Debney? It is in fact an old favourite of mine. Randy Edelman! With great scores like The Last Of The Mohicans and Dragonheart in his belt, why make this? It’s hard to make a good comedy score too, and he is in for a real challenge. Will he pull it off? No chance.
Mad Money
Director: Callie Khouri
Cast: Diane Keaton, Ted Danson, Katie Holmes, Queen Latifah
Genre: Comedy / Crime / Thriller
This actually looks funny, and I’m not talking about Diane Keaton’s head on that movie poster. It’s been a long time since Queen Latifah has been in a funny movie, actually I can’t remember a funny movie with her. The rest of the cast seems fine for a fun night out and the trailer isn’t half bad. It’s about three female employees of the Federal Reserve plot to steal money that is about to be destroyed. Ok, so the plot pretty much stinks, but I still think this could be funny. You know what’s really funny? I was really surprised when I saw who had the score for this. Marty Davich and James Newton Howard is composing for this. James Newton Howard is a busy man, scoring for this one, I Am Legend and The Great Debaters. Don’t forget The Dark Knight in all this James. Marty Davich is a long time TV score composer. He made the ER theme people! He even scored for Beverly Hills, 90210. I wonder if it was him who made that catchy theme tune. As always I have great expectations when James Newton Howard is involved, but I am still really shocked that he is involved with this, it doesn’t seem to be his style. I really hope they release the score for this, but I won’t hold my breath.
Watch some trailers!

Oh really? He has no official credits for it as I can see. Very interesting. thanks for the heads up! I’m sure it will pop up somewhere.
To be honest, I’m not a fan of Giacchino (yet), and I was shocked when I saw his name on the new Star Trek movie. I pray that everything will be ok and the Star Trek score will be a great one, like the previous ones.

Soundtrack Seek
Oddly enough, there’s a piece by Michael Giacchino during the Cloverfield credits that I’ve seen people make requests for on various message boards. It’s a fairly cool Godzilla-like (for lack of a better term) piece.
Michael Giacchino has done the score for Lost and he did this one bit that I just loved that was used in the first season on an episode titled “Do No Harm.” If you were a watcher of the show, I’d say that listening to the piece would bring out the same emotions as that episode – which was a pretty emotional episode.
Anyway, since Cloverfield isn’t releasing any sort of soundtrack (despite the fact that there are songs heard via the party, etc.), I’m assuming that they’ll help us out a little and give us a way to purchase it through iTunes or something.
I’m not quite sure how much I like it just yet. I’ll have to hear it again, but I’d still like to have it. Because I’m a geek as well.
