First Sunday

At first when I saw the poster, the name and Ice Cube I thought: Oh no, must be another sequel in the Friday series, except it’s Sunday now. Well this movie has nothing to do with the series. This movie is about two best friends and bumbling petty criminals. When told they have one week to pay a $17,000 debt or one of them will lose his son, they come up with a desperate scheme to rob their neighborhood church. Instead, they end up spending the night in the presence of the Lord and are forced to deal with much more than they bargained for. Directed by David E. Talbert and starring Ice Cube, I think you know what you will get. The original music is by Stanley Clarke who was a member of Chick Corea’s band Return To Forever in the 1970s. He has composed music for over 50 movies including Boyz n the Hood, Passenger 57, Poetic Justice, Higher Learning, Romeo Must Die, Undisputed and The Transporter. My guess is that there won’t be a score for this, but possibly a soundtrack with various R&B and Rap artists on it.
In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale

I bet I know what you are thinking. Is that Jason Statham there on the poster? Is that a sword? Could it be some epic fantasy adventure starring Jason Statham? Then after you are done drooling over the cool poster you see the name of the movie. Wait, could it be a movie made from the great game Dungeon Siege? Yes, yes and yes. It gets better, because it got a lot of Hollywood has-beens and B-movie stars like Leelee Sobieski, John Rhys-Davies, Claire Forlani, Kristanna Loken, Matthew Lillard, Ray Liotta and Burt Reynolds. Don’t you just love how I got you all excited just to kill your spirits, nay crush it forever with only two words? What can be so terrible? Soundtrack Geek, please tell us? Ok, here’s the two words that the whole world fears, even the dark lord himself trembles when his name is spoken in any relation to movies: Uwe Boll.
I’m sorry to be the bringer of bad news. The destroyer of every great game title made to movie is back again. So what about the soundtrack? Interestingly Henning Lohner and Jessica De Rooij will be making the original score for this. Jessica De Rooij is a new name in the world of movie scores, but Henning Lohner has been composing for about 10 years now. Most notably he has collaborated with the esteemed Hans Zimmer on the score to Lauras Stern and he also composed the score for The Ring Two. I am actually excited about the score for this one. I just hope they release it in some capacity.
The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything: A VeggieTales Movie

And you thought the titles couldn’t be any longer? Well this is a CGI movie from Universal Pictures and it’s about vegetables who are pirates! It’s an unknown movie with unknown voice actors and an unknown score by composer Kurt Heinecke. VeggieTales is an old kid series who saw the day of light in 2000. There are over 10 direct to video titles. Go and enjoy it if you must. I will stick to my old trusted Postman Pat, yeah I’m old.
So those were the releases of the week. They are in theatres January 11th. Watch the trailers now:
